Last week I introduced you to the buckets of eyeballs that you’re writing for; Immediate, Medium and Web. This week I’m focusing on the Immediate readership; writing for yourself and writing for your niche. As I mentioned, you might not think you’re writing for a niche, so pretend that what I say for your niche is really just for you or for the whole world, whatever works for you.

Writing is Therapy

When it comes to writing for yourself, we all have different needs or goals. Your tone, your style and your verbosity change. For example, when I journal I can fill pages up quickly and jump between topics without a care. When I write a story or to a specific topic, I move in fits and starts as I pause to consider the clarity of my sentence.

Writing for oneself alone is a lot like Journaling.

When I’m writing for Medium, I fall into the latter category. I wrote a post a while back detailing “Micro Meditation” and would literally pause to practice the things I was writing about… I finished that post more relaxed. The end result was a cogent piece that I knew was effective.
