Are Hooding Cobras Angry?
If you’d like to know a secret way to turn yourself into a fear-free snake behaviour expert then this story will show you how.
Two days ago a friend sent me a video of someone showering a King cobra with a garden hose.
It’s sunny outside, the snake is on a concrete floor and it’s standing tall with its hood spread. A plastic shower head spreads and sprays the water evenly into the neck and chin area of the snake.
As the water is angled up towards the cobra’s face, it angles it lifts its head as if enjoying the sensation of the water massaging its chin.
The hand is within striking distance.
Then the snake pushes against the water and lowers its body a little ending up right next to the person’s hand.
But the hand doesn’t move away.
The person instead stops spraying water and with their thumb starts to scratch the snake’s chin.
The snake leans into it resting its body against the hand while the person continues with the massage.
As soon as the person stops scratching the snake starts to hiss a little looking straight at the camera.
The first sign of a touch of agitation.
